Dr. Kuhen Smith
Dr. Smith grew up in Memphis and attended Memphis State University. He graduated from University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1982 and Residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 1987. He has been in private practice since and has held a part-time teaching position in the UT Department of OMS since 1987. He was certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 1989.
His practice and teaching position focus on preprosthetic surgery, implant reconstruction, bone grafting and wisdom tooth surgery.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, Tennessee Dental Association, American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the Tennessee Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Ron Staples
Dr. Staples is a highly qualified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science with honors, majoring in Biomedical Engineering and minoring in Mathematics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Staples earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree and completed his postdoctoral oral and maxillofacial surgery fellowship and residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Dentistry, Memphis. He is a Board Certified Surgeon by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has multiple certifications including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Dr. Staples is a fellow of various prestigious societies including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and American College of Surgeons. He also holds an Assistant Professor appointment at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Franklin Ivers
Dr. Ivers is a Board Certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from UTHSC, Memphis. Further refining expertise at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, he specializes in a wide array of OMFS procedures. Notably, Dr. Ivers held leadership positions including Chief Resident Surgeon at Vanderbilt. With a robust skill set spanning exodontia, implants, trauma, TMJ, and more, he is a Board Certified Dentist and a diplomate of ABOMS.
Dr. Ivers' journey began as a Surgical Assistant at Arkansas Oral and Facial Surgery Center during undergraduate years. As a Resident Physician and later Chief Resident at Vanderbilt (2019-2023), he managed complex OMFS cases, demonstrating adeptness with advanced software and leadership in hospital systems.
Now practicing in Memphis, Dr. Ivers continues to provide exceptional care, embodying the ideals of precision, compassion, and surgical excellence.
Dr. Sloan Ashabranner
Dr. Sloan Ashabranner was raised in Arkansas where attended the University of Arkansas for undergraduate studies. He then attended the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
Following graduation, he practiced general dentistry in central and northwest Arkansas for several years prior to pursuing a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He completed an internship at Detroit Medical Center before entering the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program in 2017. He then completed the final years of training at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2021.
Dr. Ashabranner is trained to perform a full scope of OMS procedures with special interests in dental implants and bone grafting, orthognathic surgery, and maxillofacial trauma.
He also enjoys spending time with family and friends, golfing, running, and being a husband to his amazing wife Fauzia.
